The Story Behind House of Tora

House of Tora was born from legacy.

“Tora” is my mother’s maiden name, and it carries a special meaning in both Amharic and Wolaita (Wolaytta). Wolaita is an Afro-Asiatic language spoken primarily by the Wolaita people of the Wolaita Zone in southern Ethiopia, a region deeply connected to my family’s heritage.

In both languages, Tora means warrior and champion—a meaning that feels especially meaningful to me and to the legacy my family has passed down.

Choosing Tora as the heart of this brand is my way of honoring my mother’s roots and the family members who came before me. Their lives, strength, and legacy continue to inspire me, and carrying the family name forward allows a piece of that legacy to live on.

For me, House of Tora is more than a coffee company. It is a continuation of heritage. It is a way to honor where I come from, celebrate the people who shaped me, and carry their impact into a new chapter.

Every cup is a small way of bringing that legacy forward—rooted in Ethiopian culture, created with intention, and inspired by the warriors and champions who came before me.
